Starting today, the public is invited to cast their votes for the best mascot design for the FINA World Championships, which are scheduled to be held in Kazan in 2015. The shortlist of design entries comprises 7 concepts which were most common among entries submitted by participants of the all-Russia contest.

The fourth day of the Russian Short Course Swimming Championship, which takes place these days in Kazan, started with a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the plane crash at the airport in Kazan. Kazan's preparations for the 16th FINA World Championships, as well as for other large-scale competitions were on the agenda of a weekly briefing at the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan. Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism, Rafis Burganov, and Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, Vladimir Leonov, talked about the efforts made in this area.

On October 10, the FINA delegates, headed by FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu, arrived in Kazan on their second inspection visit to assess the host city's preparations for the 2015 FINA World Championships. The trip schedule includes the inspection of Kazan's sports infrastructure. The visit is mainly dedicated to technical issues related to the construction of fields of play, where the best athletes from all over the world will be competing. The first venue the delegation toured was the Kazan Arena Stadium.
