Being one of the oldest Olympic sports, water polo should become more modern without losing its traditions. The main goal is to attract the eyes and attention of the audience to the sport, which still has lots of fans around the world. This was one of the topics that were discussed at the FINA World Water Polo Conference on 27-28 February in Cancun (Mexico).

Today, on the eve of the Closing Ceremony of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games, Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Volga Federal District Mikhail Babich visited the Volga Region exhibition in Sochi’s Olympic Park.

With the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in full swing, the presentation of the 16th FINA World Championships was held in Sochi. This high-profile international event will be hosted by the Russian Federation for the first time. Kazan, which has recently staged the Summer Universiade, will platy host to the championships in 2015.

President of the Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov, who is currently on a visit to the host city of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games, said that the 2020 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) may be held in Sochi.

The FINA inspection team visited Kazan in the very first days of February. Among those who arrived for the visit to Kazan are FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu, FINA Assistant to Executive Director Marcela Saxlund, Events and Services Manager at FINA Will Bastin, Head of FINA's Communications Department Pedro Adrega, Head of Marketing and TV at FINA Peter Hall and other FINA officials, including the FINA Bureau member, President of the Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov.

The FINA Inspection Visit will take place in Kazan on February 1-2. Among the FINA officials, who has arrived for the visit to Kazan, are FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu, FINA Assistant to Executive Director Marcela Saxlund, Events and Services Manager at FINA Will Bastin, Head of FINA's Communications Department Pedro Adrega, Head of Marketing and TV at FINA Peter Hall and other FINA officials, including the FINA Bureau member, President of the Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov. They will have a series of meetings with heads of functional areas at the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and inspect preparations for the 16th FINA World Championships Kazan 2015.

Ongoing matters related to the preparation for the 2015 FINA World Championships and 2014 test events in Kazan were discussed during the working visit of the Tatarstan delegation to Montreal (Canada). The meetings on January 16 were attended by FINA Executive Director and Secretary General Cornel Marculescu and representatives of the Organising Committee for the 15th FINA World Masters Championships.

Players and coaches of the Russian and Serbian national water polo teams, which the day before played the Men’s Water Polo World League match at the Aquatics Palace, have shared their impressions of the game. As we reported earlier, the game ended with a score of 12-8 in favour of Serbia.
