Volga Federal District volunteer leaders gather in Kazan

06.05.2014, 20:21 Volunteers
The Volga Federal District Volunteer Forum kicked off on May 5 at the Volga Youth Centre, Kazan. The event was organised by the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh) with the support of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate. The two-day programme will address two types of volunteer activities: social volunteering and sports volunteering. The forum participants will discuss common practices and opportunities to develop these two trends in the Russian youth community, to share experiences and to map out cooperation plans for the near future.

Having brought together volunteers from all over Russia, the Kazan forum is territorial in name only. The team of organisers invited volunteer leaders from host cities of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and partner regions that joined the preparations for the 16th FINA World Championships 2015. The forum welcomed representatives from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Vladivostok, Kaliningrad, Rostov-on-Don.

Tatarstan’s Deputy Youth and Sport Minister Rustam Garifullin attended the event as a special guest. He welcomed the participants, wished them productivity at work and expressed hope for future beneficial cooperation. Also present at the forum was Maria Demyanova, manager of the Tecknologiya Dobra (‘Technology of Kindness’) federal project and head of the youth project department at Rosmolodezh. On behalf of the organisers, she delivered an opening speech.

The Day 1 evening session focused on sports volunteering in Russia and two major strategic projects – the 2015 FINA World Championships and 2018 FINA World Cup. The speakers at the session were Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, Azat Kadyrov, and head of the Kazan division of the Local Organising Committee for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Mikhail Leonov. The audience showed great interest in the topics, and the speeches eventually evolved into a Q&A session. The questions mainly concerned Kazan’s experience of planning and hosting the 2013 Summer Universiade and prospects of cooperation at the FIFA World Cup. Emphasis was also placed on the preparations for the world football tournament – from special features of the volunteer programme to nuances of the ticketing programme.

It should be noted that similar events will be held in April-May 2014 in 8 federal districts of Russia. The forums are aimed at promoting ideas, values and practices of the volunteer movement, boosting Russian youth’s creative potential, engaging them in socially useful activities. The Kazan forum’s programme features a two-day immersion course, including plenary sessions and workshops. Besides, representatives of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate will provide volunteer leaders with an insight into unique volunteer management experience at international sporting events. Among the positive results of the forum are: development of unique volunteer technologies and practices, provision of training and information support, elaboration of an integrated volunteer development programme for the Volga Federal District, compilation of a calendar of major events taking place in the regions, federal district and country, planning of internships and knowledge exchange events.
