Kazan 2015 OC presents FINA World Championships at Seliger 2014

22.07.2014, 19:10 Volunteers
A global project that is unique in terms of its content and scale – All-Russian Youth Forum Seliger 2014 – is underway on Lake Seliger, Tver Oblast between July 13 and August 10. The tenth anniversary edition of the forum will be organised as usual by the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs. Alexander Karpov, Head of the Volunteer Department at the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects, was invited to act as a moderator at the workshop dedicated to sports volunteering.

More than 60 presentations were held as part of the awareness-raising project, Learn Everything About FINA, at various forums around Tatarstan and Russia. The largest federal youth event – Forum Seliger 2014 – has undoubtedly become one of the key tools for promoting the 2015 FINA World Championships among socially active youth in Russia.

As a speaker, Alexander Karpov delivered two detailed presentations on the FINA World Championships that are to be hosted in Kazan next summer. The presentations were attended by participants of two camp sessions – Technology of Kindness and Team 2018. Both meetings sparked a lively discussion: after a lecture on the International Swimming Federation (FINA), history and geography of the World Championships, Russian national team and its achievements at previous World Championships, special features of the Kazan Championships and the volunteer programme, there was a Q&A session where forum participants flooded the speaker with questions about how the preparation for the World Championships is going on and how volunteers can apply to work at the event. All in all, over 300 Seliger participants attended the presentations and showed interest in the Kazan 2015 project. They also expressed eagerness to take this information to their home regions where they will share it with their teams and organise a selection process to form a volunteer delegation for next summer’s World Championships in Kazan.

As we reported earlier, presentations of the Kazan 2015 World Championships were already hosted at such events as the Volga Federal District Youth Forum iVolga 2014 and International Youth Forum Biryusa 2014. More promotional events are scheduled to be held at the North Caucasus Youth Forum Mashuk 2014, Youth Forum Khopyor 2014 and others. The presentations are designed to raise young people’s awareness of the upcoming sporting event, to promote the FINA World Championships and to urge Russia’s most active and forward-minded youth representatives to join the Kazan 2015 volunteer programme.
