Experienced volunteers to tell ‘newbies’ of sports volunteering opportunities at FINA 2015

28.03.2014, 18:12 Volunteers
The first working meeting was held on March 27 with heads of volunteer centres of Tatarstan’s universities that had entered into the cooperation with the Kazan 2015 organisers in the build-up to the upcoming FINA World Championships. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the plan of activities for the near future.

The cooperation will start with implementation of the awareness-raising project, Learn Everything about FINA, which will be held in higher education institutions, specialised secondary education establishments and sports schools of Kazan in April-May 2014. The project aims to inform youth of the 16th FINA World Championships and its main organiser – the International Swimming Federation (FINA), as well as of volunteer opportunities for the upcoming international aquatics event.

A team of presenters will be a special feature of the project; it will traditionally include not only employees of the Organising Committee but also volunteers. For the most experienced of them know exactly what it takes to volunteer at major sporting events: most of them have Olympic volunteering experience under their belt. Volunteer speakers will share their stories about being a volunteer, tell ‘newbies’ of the benefits of volunteering at international events and explain the pros of becoming volunteers at FINA 2015. Speaker training has already begun – together with the staff of the Volunteer Department the volunteers collect photo and video archives and put together the presentation featuring the highlights of their volunteer careers.

So far, the organisers of the 2015 FINA World Championships have been joined by Kazan National Research Technological University, Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N.Tupolev, Kazan State Power Engineering University, Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism, TISBI University of Management, Institute of Economics, Management and Law, Kazan State Medical University, Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering, and Kazan Cooperative Institute (branch of Russian University of Cooperation).

However, the list of non-profit partners will soon be expanded as regions of the Russian Federation will join the FINA 2015 volunteer programme. Among them are, first of all, those regions with which the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate already cooperated in the lead-up to and during the 27th Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan, as well as strategic partners, i.e. the cities that will host matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Under the partnership agreements, regions of the Russian Federation will provide information support in terms of promoting the World Championships, values of aquatic sports and healthy lifestyles, as well as will build and train the region’s delegation that in the summer of 2015 will head to Kazan to contribute as volunteers to the 16th FINA World Championships and Masters tournament.
