July 24 - August 9, 2015
American swimmer Ryan Lochte was first to touch the wall and stopped the watch at 1:55.81 to win the world title in the event. He was followed across the finish line by Thiago Pereira of Brazil who clocked 1:56.65. Bronze was claimed by Wang Shun of China who finished the race in 1:56.81. The gold medal didn’t come as a surprise for the US swimmer. As the swimming legend had admitted during one of his earlier interviews, he had seen himself among the major contenders for gold.
“Every time I am about to start I don’t think about the medals I’ve won because they are history. I try to live in the present and look into the future. Thus, every day I come to the pool I make my body work. A lot of athletes aim at gold here, and I hope I will be among the main contenders for gold,” Ryan Lochte said.
