The diving kickoff press conference has taken place at the Aquatics Palace today. 132 male and 107 female divers representing 84 national delegations will take part in the FINA World Championships, 28 technical officials, including one representative from Russia, will officiate at the competitions.

"It is very exciting to be here at the 16th FINA World Championships. The FINA 2015 World Championships in Kazan is extremely important event for us. It is also a qualifying event for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics,” FINA Technical Diving Committee (TDC) Chairperson Kathy Seaman said. She mentioned a high potential of all competitors: “Earlier we could not even dream that some dives will be ever executed but now they even will be performed at these very Championships.”

Kathy Seaman also reminded that two new disciplines will be introduced during the Championships: mixed 3m springboard and mixed 10m platfrom. She did not exclude the possibility of including this discipline onto the Olympic programme because the competitions are really spectacular. Moreover, in her opinion, this is a good opportunity for national teams whose divers never claimed top positions before.

“It‘s been an interesting revelation for us to learn that athletes have a chance to get used to each other and perform a dive synchronously. They like it, and I like this discipline as I see how happy athletes are.”

The Championships in Kazan will see 13 diving medal events, which is the record number in the history of the FINA World Championships.

“We should do justice to the Aquatics Palace; all the equipment, swimming pools are in perfrect condition,” the Chairperson said. She also added that she finds the venue quite convenient in terms of spectator seating.

“The pool is very good. Our task was to make it meet global standards. Works are 99% complete, 1% is for adjusting some petty things that appeared due to requirement changes. This pool is no worse than that at the European Games in Baku. It is clean, full of light, and nice, so it will be a pleasure to host the World Championships here,” said Competition Sport Manager, Andrey Beketov.
