Another stage of the volunteer recruitment campaign for the 16th FINA World Championships concludes in 20 regions of Russia. Preliminary lists of volunteers who will assist the Organising Committee in staging this summer's major international aquatics event have been finalised. On April 1, 2015, 500 boys and girls who were shortlisted to be part of their regional delegations, as well as 2,000 representatives of the Republic of Tatarstan, will hear the long-awaited 'Congrats! You are in the team!'

It took nearly three months to complete interviews with candidates: over 150 trained recruiters have processed 9,887 applications and had face-to-face interviews with volunteers willing to contribute to the staging of the Championships. The record number of applications was submitted by candidates from St. Petersburg (905), from Moscow (852) and Samara (827).

The start date for selection events was chosen – November 20, 2014 – on that day volunteer recruitment centres were opened in Kazan and 20 cities of Russia. During interviews, candidates were given 15 minutes to present themselves: they talked about their reasons for volunteering, their volunteer experience at various events, skills that according to them can be useful when volunteering and also demonstrated their level of proficiency in English and other foreign languages. After considering the results of these interviews, recruiters generated lists of 25 volunteers recommended for volunteering at the Championships and also a reserve group. The team of selected candidates will be joined by international volunteers.

Non-local volunteers will arrive in Kazan on July 18, 2015 with enough time for them before the Championships to undergo training and collect their accreditation badges and branded uniforms. The delegations will be assigned to key competition venues (Kazan Arena, Aquatics Palace, Water Polo Arena, Kazanka Venue) and Tatneft Arena, the non-sports venue where the Championships Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be held. Non-local and international volunteers will stay in Kazan up until the end of the main tournament on August 10, 2015. The World Masters Championships will be held by efforts of Kazan volunteers.

Non-local and international volunteers will be provided with a number of essential services, including accommodation (triple and quadruple rooms); three meals per day; uniform; transfer from an arrival point in Kazan to a place of accommodation and back; medical insurance for the duration of volunteer shifts; motivational programme.

The partners of the volunteer programme are the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Arkhangelsk Oblast, Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Astrakhan Oblast, Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy of the Volgograd Oblast, Vyatka State University, Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Krasnodar Krai, Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Krasnoyarsk Krai, Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Mari El, Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Mari El, Ministry of Sports and Physical Culture of the Republic of Mordovia, State Committee for Youth Affairs of the Republic of Mordovia, Moscow City Department of Culture, Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Department for Physical Culture and Sports of the Novosibirsk Oblast, Ministry of Regional Policy of the Novosibirsk Oblast, Ministry of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Orenburg Oblast, Department for Physical Culture and Sports of the Primorsky Krai, Department for Youth Affairs of the Primorsky Krai, Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Rostov Oblast, National State University of Physical Education, Sports and Health named after P.F.
