Kazan 2015 OC interviews 1,000th successful volunteer candidate

25.12.2014, 17:25 Volunteers
A month has passed since the volunteer programme of the 16th FINA World Championships entered the face-to-face phase. The selection progress is well underway and interviews with volunteer candidates are held every day in 20 regions of Russia. The Kazan 2015 Organising Committee is going to recruit 2,500 volunteers, 2,000 of them will be from Tatarstan and 500 will come from other Russian regions. Meanwhile, the Kazan Volunteer Recruitment Centre welcomed its 1,000th candidate who turned out to be the student of the Tupolev Kazan National Research Technical University Timur Khasanov.

"I've had my interview today and I'm very happy: I've done an important thing and I'm very glad that I passed the interview this year. Now I will anxiously wait for my results. After the interview I was told another good news - I've become the 1,000th candidate! I've never had a chance to become someone special, some milestone figure. I was granted such an honour for the first time and I'm very pleased," Timur shared his impression. "I would like to work in the Kazan Arena Stadium. I want to make my personal contribution to the staging of the aquatics competition, to see everything with my own eyes, to become part of the wonderful volunteer team and to experience those incredible feelings again. I already have the Summer Universiade in Kazan, Olympic Games in Sochi, IAAF World Championships in Moscow, World Judo Championships in Chelyabinsk under my belt and I wouldn't forgive myself if I missed the FINA World Championships, all the more so it will be held in my home city. I'm looking forward to next summer!"

The recruitment stage involves face-to-face interviews during which recruiters consult candidates on volunteer opportunities that will be available during next year's international aquatics event and tasks set before the Championships Organising Committee. The interview process for Kazan 2015 volunteer positions features some novelties which lacked in the build-up to the 2013 Summer Universiade. Apart from traditional questions about personal motivation, volunteer experience or other social activities, skills and talents, the interviews now include a test of English proficiency or proficiency in a language other than English.

Head of the Volunteer Department at the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects, Anna Zakhmatova, mentioned a high level of candidates' competence: "Each of those who passed an interview - and there are already one thousand of them - deserves to be part of the Kazan Volunteers team. Their immense interest in volunteering and sincere willingness to help the organisers of the upcoming Championships suggest that our republic and country have the most active and talented youth! I’m confident that next summer we will host an epic sporting event that will be best remembered for a high level of event management and its remarkable and professional volunteer team!”

The Kazan Volunteer Recruitment Centre opened its doors on December 5, 2014, on International Volunteer Day. The venue is equipped to the detail for maximum comfort of volunteers; there are all necessary facilities for candidates to edit their application forms, to have their accreditation badge photos taken, to undergo interviews, etc. The centre’s colourful visual appearance executed in accordance with the Kazan 2015 graphic language puts visitors in a special mood.

We remind that the 16th FINA World Championships volunteer application form will be available on the official website until January 1, 2015. Interviews will run until April 2015, and after that the lists of selected volunteers will be announced.
